At Pachamama we have always believed in natural materials and have tried to use them as far as possible. Wool is fundamentally much more costly than synthetic materials, but if you want something to keep you warm there is no competition between wool and materials such as polyester, or acrylic which forms a large part of much cheaper knitwear.
We have mixed cotton with the wool in this range to give it a deliciously soft feel next to the skin. The mix of yarns also results in an attractive slubbed texture and as the two materials take the dye differently the colours have a distinctive marled look. The resulting weight is ideal for outdoor wear in anything but the most extreme conditions and while these knits are still much warmer than synthetic alternatives they are also suitable for wearing at home. Much has been made of ‘green’ fashion of late, but in our opinion one of the single most effective things you can do to reduce carbon emissions is to wear some wool and turn the heating off. In the long run you will save money as well as the planet.
